Here is Bre Pettis' response to the question of open vs. closed.
"This isn’t the first change we’ve made to become more of a professional business, and it won’t be our last." Bre Pettis
None other than Dale Dougherty and Zachary Smith have responded to this.
"Bre weighs in but keeps everyone guessing. Fixing Misinformation with Information" Dale Dougherty on twitter @dalepd
"Bre Pettis, please prove me wrong by clarifying exactly what license MakerBot will be releasing the design files and software under. That is all we (the community) wants. Zachary Smith co-founder Makerbot. Link to his post.
Looks like all eyes and ears will be interested in what Bre Pettis says during his talk at the Open Hardware Summit this Thursday 09/27/2012 Challenges of Open Source Consumer Products between 3pm and 4:45pm.
"One of these challenges comes from people who break the Unwritten Rules of Open Source. From exact clones through deceptively named derivatives, some bad actors just want to mine value from the community, rather than contribute." Bre Pettis.
